As I'm preparing to leave the country for four months… I've had to really strategically and intentionally think about and plan for the things I need to take with me. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have access to Amazon Prime in Southeast Asia, so I am stressing a bit about making sure I don't forget anything *super* important that I can't get while I'm abroad.
At the same time, I've found myself going a little bit overboard. I'm dreaming of putting together the perfect assortment of travel gear to ensure I have everything I need and want on my journey. What better way than to do some online window shopping, right? So without further ado, check out this list of items I'm wish-listing and lusting over to use on my upcoming travels abroad.
Packing / Luggage
This carry-on from Raden is hella smart. It's got an integrated lock, a built-in portable power bank with 2 external USB ports for charging devices on-the-go, a built-in scale to weigh your bag, plus location tracking so you can locate your bag through the accompanying app. Plus it's got a waterproof seal so all its contents will be kept dry. Unfortunately, it's just not budget savvy enough for my budget, so I'm on the hunt for the perfect international compliant carry-on bag in the next couple weeks.
I'm planning to do quite a bit of photo-taking on this trip, so I decided I needed a more travel-friendly setup for my camera gear. This backpack on Amazon came highly recommended by my friend Brandi for traveling with a DSLR. I love the slide out compartment for my camera/lenses and the fact that I can still fit my laptop in the backpack as well. I'm looking forward to trying this out and seeing how it works for my travel needs. I plan to use this as my “personal item” along with my carry-on.
Packing cubes are all the rage for the Type-A traveler, and the OCD organizer in me is kind of obsessed with the concept. I stumbled across this brand of packing cubes that actually compresses the contents down to a slimmer profile. I decided to order these and give them a try because they were on sale on Amazon for more than 50% off. Fingers crossed they work as well as they claim!
Since I won't be splurging on some fancy luggage that weighs itself, I instead picked up a handheld scale so I can keep track of the weight of my back on my travels. I am hoping to get through this four-month journey without ever having to pay extra for baggage. I'm thinking this little tool will come in handy!
Tech / Electronics
This will be my first time traveling to an area of the world that doesn't use the standard plugs we have here in the US. I don't want to take any chances ruining any of my computer equipment or my favorite curling iron (#priorities) so I picked up this travel plug voltage converter and plug adapter set.
Since I use my iPhone 7 Plus for pretty much everything from taking photos to sharing on social media, or emailing to sending invoices, it's important that my phone is juiced up no matter where I go. Having a reliable portable charger is clutch for me, even just when wandering the streets of NYC. So I knew that I needed to get one to take with my on my trip. I decided on this portable charger from Amazon… it was only about 10 bucks and can recharge my iPhone up to 3X on a single charge. Plus, it's turquoise! (Yes, I know I have a problem…)
I plan on devouring quite a number of books during my travels, and what better way to store and carry an unlimited library of texts than with an e-reader? I am obsessed with my Kindle Paperwhite because it has just the right brightness to allow for reading in any lighting condition. Luckily I already own this device and it will definitely be making the journey to Asia with me, but I thought it bore mentioning anyway.
I like to have an organized nightstand by my bedside. Placing my iPhone and Apple watch in a dock to recharge overnight has become part of my nightly ritual. I have this one at home in my apartment but I didn't want to bring this one on my trip since it's a bit heavy/bulky and I'm trying to watch my luggage weight. So I found this great foldable portable version that I snagged to set up in each of my foreign homes. Pretty great, right? Is anyone else as obsessed with organization as I am? 🙈
Along with my Macbook Pro, I'm bringing along an External Harddrive to backup some of my necessary files. I have a larger external hub at home that I don't want to bring for space-saving reasons, so I loved that I could find a large-capacity portable storage option that is so compact. I'm gonna go with the 2TB version.
This will come in handy for day trips to the beach or on those days when I have to travel between countries. I snagged a quick dry towel like this at an influencer event recently so I luckily don't have to purchase a new one… although I *do* love this turquoise one I spotted on Amazon.
So… those are some of my favorite travel picks and such for my upcoming travels. Have anything you care to recommend I check out? Let me know… I do still have a week or so left to make another Amazon order 😉
Until next time,
